Editor's Note - a previous version of this story incorrectly indicated it was the e-scooter operator who was ticketed. It was the driver of the pick-up truck who was issued tickets by Winkler Police. PembinaValleyOnline apologizes for the error.

The driver of a pick-up truck was issued a ticket for driving with an expired license, and for driving an unregistered vehicle after a Tuesday evening collision in Winkler.

Winkler Police officers responded to the incident on 1st Street near Stanley Avenue around 6:45 p.m., and found a pickup truck and e-scooter had collided.

According to police, the pickup truck was northbound on 1st Street in moderate to heavy traffic when the person operating the e-scooter activated the crosswalk lights and entered the roadway. Witnesses reported the person on the scooter did not provide sufficient time for traffic to react before entering the roadway, and as a result the pickup truck collided with the scooter.

Information provided to PembinaValleyOnline from Winkler Police Service indicated the scooter operator was transported by paramedics to Boundary Trails Health Centre with what were thought to be minor injuries.

Winkler Fire Department also responded to the collision, a call that came just minutes after a commercial fire was responded to on George Avenue.
