Central Alberta families can compare the academic performance of local schools by using the Fraser Institute's Report Card on Alberta’s Elementary Schools.
This year, the report ranks 730 public, separate, independent, and charter schools based on eight academic indicators gathered from province-wide test results.
“Our Report Cards offer parents information they can’t easily get anywhere else, about how their child’s school performs and how it compares to other schools in Alberta,” said Peter Cowley, a Fraser Institute senior fellow.
The data collected suggests improvements for every school, regardless of type, location, or student characteristics.
“It doesn’t matter where a school is ranked, or what challenges its students may face. The evidence is clear—all types of schools, located all over the province with different types of students, are all capable of improvement,” Cowley said.

While the report can offer parents a glimpse into the academic performance of individual schools, parents are encouraged to seek more information by visiting the school and interviewing teachers and school administrators before deciding what school their children will attend.
