An aggressive grizzly bear warning was issued for the Madden area as Alberta Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Services (FWES) continue to investigate a recent bear attack.
The attack happened in Rocky View County near Range Road 34 just north of Township Road 274, on Sunday (Sept. 1) just after 10 a.m.
A 48-year-old Calgary man sustained sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries from a female grizzly, who was accompanied by "sub-adult bears."
FWES took over the investigation, and determined, through DNA samples, that the female grizzly is the same one that was involved in a fatal attack near Waiparous in 2021.
They're working on locating the bear, have taken up foot patrols in the area, and are utilizing different kinds of traps and low-flying aircraft to do so.
Anyone who spots a bear in the Madden area, especially between Lochend Road and Highway 22, is asked to contact the Report-A-Poacher hotline: 1-800-642-3200.
People in the area are also encouraged to use caution and carry deterrents such as noisemakers and bear spray.
