A man from the southeast was arrested this past weekend and is facing a number of charges, after a pursuit in the Kenosee Lake region that would see a spiked belt deployed to hopefully stop the driver.

The Carlyle RCMP reported in a release issued yesterday afternoon that they received a call on Saturday night about a vehicle that was leaving the Kenosee Lake area, being driven erratically, heading towards Carlyle. The vehicle would be located by police, moving at a high rate of speed, north on Highway 9 towards Kenosee Lake.

A tire deflation device would be deployed on Lake View Street in Kenosee Lake. The suspect vehicle went over the device, and all four tires were popped. While this did slow the vehicle, police say the suspect continued to drive away from police.

The RCMP pursued the vehicle at a low rate of speed until the suspect came to a stop at a dead end in the road.

As a result of the incident, 19-year-old Ashton Retieffe of Kenosee Lake is charged with two counts of flight from police, two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime, two counts of resisting or obstructing a peace officer, and one count of failing to comply with release conditions.

The RCMP also stated the license plate on the vehicle was stolen from Alberta.

Retieffe made an appearance in Weyburn Provincial Court on Tuesday.
