The 12th annual Cochrane Step n’ Stride is set to take over Mitford Park this weekend.
The Sunday walk/run fundraiser is focused on helping people with Parkinson's disease and Parkinson's plus syndromes live better lives.
Lana Tordoff, Executive Director of the Parkinson Association of Alberta says the Cochrane event has already more than doubled its fundraising goal.
“I'm so proud of our little Cochrane, $10,000 is the goal we set this year. We're over $24,000 today.”
“We're just going to blow it out of the water. I'm looking forward to being there. People are just so motivated and so inspired and we're so so grateful for everybody's efforts.”
Starting at 1 p.m., participants will participate in a 1 Km, 3 Km or 5 Km walk or run.
“It's really a chance for people to get to know each other and visit with old friends,” she says. “There's a bagpiper this year, which is very exciting for me. Photo booth, treats, a face painter and there's a barbecue.”
“People live a really unique experience with Parkinson's disease and it's so great to be in touch with people who know what you're going through and have similar experiences, but also then to be in touch with folks like our staff who really, their speciality is making sure that people have the support they need every day to live as best they can with their disease.”
Registration for the Sunday event is still open and day of walkers are always welcome.
