Fans of the pork souvlaki burger can welcome the return of Olymel’s “Giving Back Together” barbecue fundraiser coming up on Thursday, September 12. The annual barbecue will once again see the proceeds going to the Humboldt and District Food Bank.
“The event just seems to align well with Olymel’s logo, “Feeding the World,” says Lori Rowat, manager of human resources at Olymel. “So, we want to be part of the community and feed those who simply don’t have the money to buy groceries. It’s just a natural partnership for us with the Food Bank.”
Olymel locations across the country participate in similar “Giving Back Together” events to support those in need in regional communities.
The delicious pork souvlaki burgers were generously donated by Drake Meats, always a welcome partner in the event.
On the same day, area farmers will be visited by Olymel staff with a special in field meal of barbecued ribs and an assortment of sides, Rowat explains.
“This year, we have 11 deliveries going out to area farmers. We are going as far as Chelan this year. We deliver enough food for up to 20 people, and we bring it right to the farmers. We set up the table; we cut and serve the ribs – all they need to bring are the chairs.”
The fundraising barbecue takes place on Thursday, September 12 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at the Olymel Building 10333 8th Avenue. Ten dollars gets a burger, drink and a couple snacks. Come on out for this annual feast for the Humboldt and District Food Bank.
