Justin McDonald’s customers drop in for any number of reasons. Perhaps the Riders game is on the big screen, or maybe the sports simulators are calling. They might just want a cold one and a burger.
“Everybody seems to love our burgers,” says McDonald, owner of Another Round Sports Bar & Grill in Weyburn. “They’re a homemade patty, and they tend to be a big hit.”
Speaking of big hits, Another Round Sports Bar & Grill’s sports simulators now feature baseball, in addition to about 30 other sports. Rain or snow, cold or colder, the simulators offer Weyburn and area residents the chance to practice their skills and just have some fun in a friendly, indoor setting.
“Ours are basically the newest and best simulators on the market,” McDonald explains. “You can play everything from basketball to hockey. We also have an indoor golf league each winter that seems to draw a lot of people.”
When Another Round got going five years ago, McDonald recalls, there was nothing comparable in the region. People knew of indoor golf in Regina, but Weyburn simply hadn’t offered the activity.
“Back when we purchased the building, we decided that we wanted to do something during the winters,” he says. “On those cold days, we wanted to give the community the option to come down and play the indoor sports, to do something out of the ordinary.”
The establishment also wanted to make sure that kids could have a go at the simulators as well.
“A lot of people might not realize that kids are welcome here until 9:00 every night,” says McDonald. “They can come play the simulators, and families can have lunch or supper.”
Needless to say, the sports simulators make Another Round a popular spot for kids’ parties and team wind-ups. The popularity of the food doesn’t hurt either.
“Our menu continuously draws a lot of people in. People seem to enjoy our food, our atmosphere and the service they receive,” says McDonald, adding that Another Round also offers take-out and delivery.
Another Round Sports Bar & Grill is locally-owned and operated, and customers will likely recognize some of the servers and other staff. It’s a camaraderie that makes the business special, and McDonald notices the good relationships that already exist between his staff and his customers.
And his customers tend to come back.
“We have very good meals, very good service – and yes, there are the sports simulators,” says McDonald. “I guess there’s a little bit of everything going on here.”
