After years of absence, Sparks, Embers, and Girl Guides are making a much-anticipated return to Midale, bringing with them new opportunities for local girls to connect, learn, and grow in a positive, empowering environment.

Megan Birdsell, the Sparks leader and contact for Girl Guides in Midale, is looking forward to bringing the groups back to the community, with the first meetings scheduled for Sept. 26.

“It’s so exciting. We haven’t had Girl Guides in Midale for many years, but it’s such a positive group to bring into the community,” she said.

As they work toward getting the program up and running, the groups are looking to the community for donations of supplies.

“If you’ve got markers, crayons, crafting paper—anything you no longer use—we could definitely repurpose that,” Birdsell said.

She emphasized the benefits the youth in the town will gain from the program.

“I think it is great, especially in the world right now, to have something positive. It’s a positive environment for the girls to empower themselves and make a difference in their community, and then in the world,” she said.

Registration for the groups is still open. Those interested can register at girlguides.ca.

“The more girls we have registered, the more volunteers we are going to need,” Birdsell said. “You can volunteer to be a leader or an adult volunteer who helps alongside the unit meetings, without having to be in charge.”

“We are really excited to have the girls come together and learn alongside us,” she added.
