New to Cochrane, Jaime Anderson found a way to make friends and explore the town by starting a walking club, quickly attracting fellow locals eager to connect and enjoy the outdoors together.

Anderson moved to town in July from Ontario and was looking to make some new connections.

"I just wanted to meet new people and one of my favourite things to do in my spare time is to go for walks, so I figured I would start a walking club and meet like-minded people and also encourage people who wouldn't normally go for a walk."

She started a Facebook group and it didn't take long before she realized she wasn't the only one interested in getting out to explore Cochrane while meeting new friends.

The first official group walk was held last week with another one scheduled for this week.

"We had a good first walk, we walked about five kilometres. We'll probably gauge it with however many people show up and I'll ask how long people are comfortable walking. If they can't do a longer distance, I'll do whatever the majority of the group can do and whoever wants to go further is absolutely welcome."

Walks are scheduled for Wednesday's at 7 p.m. starting at the parking lot at Mitford Park.

Anderson said she's open to adding more walking times if there's interest.
