The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Cross Country Running and Soccer teams will begin the 2024/2025 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season this weekend.

CROSS COUNTRY RUNNING

Running Room Grand Prix #1 | Hosted by Concordia University | Saturday, September 7

After a summer of training, the RDP Cross Country Running team will put its skills to the test at Running Room Grand Prix #1 in Edmonton.

Both the Kings and Queens earned silver medals at last year’s ACAC Cross Country Running Championships in Lethbridge. Three RDP student-athletes were named 2023/2024 ACAC All-Conference Runners.

At the first competition of the year, the Kings and Queens will look to continue building upon the success of the historic Red Deer Polytechnic Cross Country Running program.

SOCCER

Red Deer Polytechnic Queens at SAIT Trojans | Saturday, September 7 | 12 pm

The RDP Queens Soccer team will challenge the SAIT Trojans on the road.

“We have to stay focused. We have studied the way the Trojans play, their formation,” said Mahziar Peyrow, RDP Queens Soccer Head Coach. “We have to bring it 100 per cent.”

Last season, the Queens (6-5-1) finished third in the ACAC South Division and lost to Keyano College in the quarterfinals. The Trojans (11-1-0) won gold.

Queens vs. Broncos | RDP Main Field | Sunday, September 8 | 12 pm

The Queens will play the Olds College Broncos at the Polytechnic. In 2023/2024, the Broncos (5-7-0) placed fourth in the ACAC South Division and missed the playoffs.

RDP Kings at SAIT Trojans | Saturday, September 7 | 2 pm

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Soccer team will begin its regular season against the SAIT Trojans in Calgary.

“If we play the way we can and how we showed during exhibition, we will have a positive result,” said Ado
Sarcevic, Kings Head Coach, of the team’s first game. “I don’t pay much attention to others and try to focus on ourselves and be the best we can.”

Last season, the Trojans (9-1-0) finished first in the ACAC South Division, but lost to the NAIT Ooks in the semi-finals. The Kings (5-3-2) placed second in the division and were edged by The King’s University Eagles in the quarterfinals.

Kings vs. Broncos | RDP Main Field | Sunday, September 8 | 2 pm

The RDP Kings will host the Olds College Broncos in their home opener. The Broncos (2-6-2) ranked fifth in the ACAC South Division during the 2023/2024 regular season.
