The first Girl Guides meeting for the Midale unit will be held on September 25th. Contact guider and sparks leader, Megan Birdsell, says meetings are starting up for all age groups.

“It's so exciting. We haven't had Girl Guides for many years in Midale, but it's such a positive group to be bringing into our community.”

Birdsell says her excitement stems from the positive impact the group will have on the girls and the community.

“In the world right now, it's amazing to be able to have a positive environment for the girls to empower themselves and to make a difference in their community, and then in the world in general.”

Being a new unit, they are seeking supply donations to start off their operations.

"Because our branch is just starting out, we're looking for anything to get the girls started. If you've got markers, crayons, crafting paper, anything that you no longer use. We could definitely take that and repurpose it.”

Girls can still register to join the Midale branch, through the Girl Guides website. Women over the age of 18 can volunteer to lead or assist in unit meetings as well.

“The more girls that we have registered, the more volunteers we're going to need. You can do it two different ways. You can volunteer to take a group over, or you can be just an adult volunteer who would help alongside the unit meetings.”

Birdsell says they're still getting their bearings but look forward to the year ahead.

“We're really excited to be able to have the girls come together and learn right alongside us.”
