The Elecs hosted their first-ever "Welcome to the Elecs Family BBQ" on Friday night, with a strong focus on family. Moms lined up for tackles, and dads threw passes, making it a memorable kickoff to the season.

The "Get in My Belly" food truck fed players and families, while parents toured the newly upgraded facilities. Head coach Chris Bayerle gathered everyone for a pep talk before the activities began.

“A significant amount of work has gone on over the off-season, from November on,” Bayerle said. “A lot of volunteers, effort, and sponsorships have come together to change the team’s direction.”

Earlier this year, the coaching staff attended the 2024 Coaching Clinic in Regina, and the team brought in Prairie Pathways to focus on athletes’ mental health.

The team also showcased their new jerseys, made possible by local sponsors, adding an extra boost of pride to the evening.

In a fitting end to the night, moms donned helmets and pads to take on their sons, delivering tackles.

“I was a little nervous at first, but that was so much fun. It was so empowering,” said Heliana de Souza-Wagner, one of the moms who suited up to tackle her son.

“We watch our kids play all the time, and we have no idea how tough it is, how physical it is, how hard they work,” added Carol Ross.

The dads capped things off with a few spirited throws, leaving everyone excited for the season.
