The Winkler Storm defeated Lucania United FC by forfeit on Sunday. The Storm are 13-2-2 and have clinched top spot in the Manitoba Major Soccer League 1st Division. Winkler's final regular season game is Sunday, September 15th at home against Kucame FC.


The Zone 4 High School Soccer season begins today. The Garden Valley Zodiacs, Morden Thunder, Northlands Parkway Nighthawks and Miller Aces boys and girls are competing in the Tier 1 division along with Dufferin Christian girls. Morris/St. Jean and Roseau Valley boys and girls are in the Tier 2 division along with Dufferin Christian boys. The Provincial A/AA/AAA Championships will be held October 11th & 12th in Minnedosa. 


Hockey Canada's National Women's Team September Camp begins today at Canada Games Park in Thorold, Ontario. Five Manitobans are at camp including goaltenders Corinne Schroeder of Elm Creek, Raygan Kirk of Ste. Anne and Kristen Campbell of Brandon along with defenders Ashton Bell of Deloraine and Jocelyne Larocque of Ste. Anne. The 48 players invited to camp will be split into Red and White teams for practices, fitness testing and a pair of intrasquad games on Thursday and Saturday. Following September Camp, players will prepare for the season with their PWHL and college teams before a roster is named for the first international competition of the season, the 2024-25 Rivalry Series starting November 6th in San Jose, California. The 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championship will be held next April in Czechia.


Nolan Flamand scored twice and Jaxon Jacobson had a goal and two assists as the Brandon Wheat Kings downed the Blades 6-3 in Saskatoon. Rhett Ravndahl, Prabh Bhathal and Nicholas Johnson also scored for the Wheat Kings. Brandon netminder Dylan McFadyen made 24 saves. The Wheat Kings will wrap up their pre-season schedule with a home-and-home against the Regina Pats this weekend. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes meet the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks tonight (6:30 p.m.) at Newman Outdoor Field in game one of the American Association's best-of-three West Division Championship Series. Game two goes Wednesday at Blue Cross Park in Winnipeg. The Fish eliminated the Sioux Falls Canaries and the Redhawks bounced the Sioux City Explorers in the Division Series. The Chicago Dogs take on the Kane County Cougars in the East Division Championship Series. 


Canadian Paralympic Athletes are returning home from Paris with 29 medals, including 10 gold. The closing ceremonies are happening at Place de la Concorde, with B-C swimmer Nicholas Bennett and Ottawa canoeist Brianna Hennessy chosen as flag bearers for Canada.
