It is an annual tradition that has seemingly grown in the more than 30 years it has taken place.

The Weyburn Independent Riders got on their motorcycles of all shapes and sizes Saturday afternoon, and took a ride through the streets of Weyburn, with Santa Claus leading the way, for their annual Toy Run to benefit the Weyburn Salvation Army.

“We go to Walmart for two days and the people in the community are very generous, very generous,” said Laurie Norman with the Weyburn Independent Riders as they were lining up for the ride early Saturday afternoon. “They come out, and they set the toy in the sleigh, and we say thank you.”

The community themselves aren’t the only ones who make the donations, either.

“Every one of the motorcycles will have one strapped to it, or in their saddlebag, or somewhere,” Norman added. “When we get to the park, they’ll bring them out and put them in the sleigh too. Then there’ll be no room for Santa. He’ll have to go home in a car.”

Nicole Strickland, community ministries worker with the Salvation Army, was excited to see all of the support.

“It’s not just Weyburn, it’s other communities coming out to help children, and that’s exactly what it’s all about."
