The Saskatchewan Roughriders (5-7-1) find themselves on the edge of the playoff picture with their winless skid falling to seven games following a 26-21 defeat to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (7-6) on Saturday.
Six of the last seven games for the Roughriders have been decided by five points or less.
Winnipeg jumped ahead in the opening quarter with a 10-0 advantage before KeeSean Johnson found the end zone to cut Saskatchewan’s deficit to three.
In the second quarter, both teams added a field goal to their totals, giving the Blue Bombers a slight lead.
The green and white came out firing in the second half, Samuel Emilus hauled in an eight-yard touchdown reception to give the Roughriders their first lead of the game early in the third quarter.
It was the blue and gold’s turn to come out firing in the beginning of the fourth quarter, as Kenny Lawler scored with a six-yard touchdown catch, swinging the advantage back to Winnipeg's side.
Both teams exchanged field goals to round out the scoring. Saskatchewan had an opportunity in the final minute to drive for a game-winning score, but Tyrell Ford’s second interception of the game, sealed the win for Winnipeg.
The Roughriders fall further down the Western Division standings thanks to the loss, with Winnipeg and the BC Lions (7-6) ahead by three points.
With Edmonton (5-8) picking up a pair of provincial wins against the Calgary Stampeders last week, they only trail Saskatchewan by one point for the final playoff spot in the west.
Quarterback Trevor Harris was 21 for 33 with 287 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Kian Schaffer-Baker led all receivers with six receptions and 120 yards.
Saskatchewan heads into their bye week, their next contest is in Calgary on Friday, September 20, for their first matchup of the season against the Stampeders.
Calgary has lost their last four games and will host the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday.
