DARROCH
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Duane Darroch, born on July 14th, 1947. Dennis passed away peacefully on Friday, September 6th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, learning, and compassion.
Dennis was raised in Carievale, Saskatchewan. He was the first of six children for his parents, Marion and Carl Darroch. In his younger years, Dennis enjoyed playing sports and helping his dad and uncles on the family farm. There were many happy memories of visiting Sherwood, Mouse River, and the surrounding communities with his many friends and family from the Carievale area.
Dennis was always a big sports fan. He enjoyed playing slow pitch and curling, and was a huge fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Moose Jaw Warriors, Toronto Maple Leafs, and loved watching all of the major curling bonspiels on tv. Dennis was also a long-time member of the Moose Jaw Royal Canadian Legion. He enjoyed visiting with his friends there and playing pool and cribbage. Dennis also loved playing cribbage with friends and family. His ability to immediately count each hand in the game was impressive! He passed along his love of the game to his kids and grandkids, and we will always think of him when we play the game.
Dennis met the love of his life, Barb Lyster, while teaching at the Saskatchewan Technical Institute (STI), where she was a student in his accounting class. Dennis dedicated more than 39 years of his life as an Accounting Instructor at STI, which later became SIAST and eventually Saskatchewan Polytechnic. His passion for education was evident in every class he taught. He was known for being a patient, kind, and knowledgeable instructor, earning the respect and admiration of both his colleagues and countless students. His ability to make complex topics understandable and his genuine care for his students' success made him an unforgettable teacher and mentor.
Dennis and Barb had a love for travel. During the early years of their marriage, they took several road trips throughout the U.S., visiting nearly every state in the country. In later years, they did several cruises with friends and family, enjoyed many vacations to the Caribbean and U.S., and took a memorable trip to the Maritimes with friends.
Dennis was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He took great pride in his family, and his warm heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication to them were at the core of everything he did. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he never missed cheering them on at sporting events or any of the activities that they enjoyed. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family at Buffalo Pound Lake, where we spent summers together every year.
We will forever remember our husband, father, and grandfather. Dennis is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barb; children, Jana (Jeff) Fox and Mark (Coral) Darroch; grandchildren: Brayden and Alaina Bollinger, and Ryder and Rustin Darroch; step-grandchildren, Jacob and Zachary Fox; siblings: Rick (Jeanette) Darroch, Lonny (Tricia) Darroch, Sharilyn Ferguson, Carla (Kevin) McCannell, and Lori (Mac) Anderson; aunt, Kay Goetz; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
We want to extend a special thank you to the staff at Moose Jaw Special Care Home for their exceptional care during Dennis’ final days. Your kindness, compassion, and wonderful care were deeply appreciated.
In keeping with Dennis’s wishes, a Private Family Service will be held at a later date.
