Tenants are now moving into the first of 10 buildings of Vertos townhouses and garden level condos in the Greystone community.

On Sept. 7, a brief ribbon-cutting was held for the development of the Ocgrow Group of Companies.

"It's the first luxury condominum and townhouse project in Greystone, so it's a very exciting day for us," says Harish Consul, Ocgrow CEO and founder and CEO. "Residents are already moving in."

The first building has 16 units and a total of 150 units when all 10 are completed. Consul says landscaping will be completed in the spring and the construction of the second building begins this week.

There are a wide range of two- and three-bedroom models, he says. The largest version in the initial building is 1,000 sq. ft. with private garages and great views of the 10-acre park across the street and the SLS Centre just down the road. There are also 805 sq. ft. models in the complex.

Mayor Jeff Genung, who assisted with the ribbon-cutting, says it's the first example of three or four storey buildings in what is rapidly becoming the new core of the community.

"Old Cochranites wouldn't call this the core, but as Cochrane grows it's obviously the heart of our community. Being close to the rec centre (SLS Centre) and seeing the park start to develop across the street, it's going to be a great addition to our community."

A bird's eye view of the 10-acre park being developed across the street can be viewed from the units with balconies.

Long-time residents would remember the land where Greystone is located as a gravel pit. Mayor Genung is among them.

"In my excavating days, I spent a lot of time in a truck getting gravel here from Burnco and hauling it out. To see it transform into this, I mean, Cochrane has seen a lot of change, and this is a prime example of it."

The Ocgrow Group is also in the midst of creating Greystone Place, a commercial and retail core for Greystone. They broke ground late this spring for the flagship building, which is scheduled to open scheduled to open in 2025. Seven more buildings will follow.
