Lacombe and area residents can register for a variety of programming, activities, and volunteer opportunities at the annual Fall Active Living Fair today (Sept. 11).

The fair will feature demonstrations, a bake sale fundraiser, and door prizes, at the Lacombe Memorial Centre from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

“The fair is open to everyone. There are opportunities and things that will interest all ages and all backgrounds,” said Dani Ducross, County of Lacombe's Lifelong Learning Association (CLLA) Executive Director and Adult Literacy Coordinator. “It's a fun night for people to come out and find out what they want to do for the long, long winter months.”

Ducross added that the fair is a chance for residents to find out what’s happening in the community through the fall, connect with local groups and organizations, and register for programming.

The fair will feature vendors such as the Lacombe Skating Club, Forbeez Theatre Group, Lacombe Art Guild, Lacombe Museum, Burman PE Centre, Lacombe and District Volunteer Link, Maddox Dance Company, World Financial Group, and the Rotary Club.

“There’s going to be diverse vendors there, and a lot of really neat things,” Ducross said.

There will also be opportunities for event attendees to meet with city councillors, and connect with the city’s community needs assessment team.

“It’s one of the key elements of helping to provide opportunities for people to maintain a healthy lifestyle, whether it’s physical fitness, mental health, or social connections,” Ducross said. “It makes for a happier, more vibrant community and that is the most important part of that whole event, is to allow people the opportunity to comfortably go and shop for what they want to do to keep themselves healthy.”
