Mac 'Big' Laursen has successfully defended his BFL welterweight title for the first time and is in the hunt for a shot at fighting in the UFC.

The victory against Ashton Charlton of Spokane, WA came in the third one when Big unloaded a rear-naked choke at the Vancouver Convention Centre on Sept. 6.

He's improved to a 7-1 professional record with his lone loss came in his debut match.

The 6'2", 165 lb. Calgary welterweight receives his boxing instruction from Eric de Guzman, of Teofista Boxing, in Bearspaw. Teofista used to have a satellite club here in Cochrane, largely to train youth. Big did train in Cochrane on occasion and assisted the emerging boxers.

On May 6, Big dethroned defending champion Dejan Kajic, of B.C., at 4:53 of the second round by submission with a rear-naked choke. They fought in Vancouver on May 6.
