Students at the schools in Weyburn returned to classes last week, which meant a lot more traffic in the school zones around the city. To help ensure everyone was able to get to school and home safely, the Weyburn Police Service was monitoring the school zones, making sure the rules such as speed limits were followed.

In previous years, the WPS has issued reminders after the first week after seeing things such as people parking in restricted areas, and parking too close to crosswalks, in addition to not following the speed.

This year, however, at least for the first week, everyone was following the rules, according to Corporal Riley Doud with the WPS.

“The Weyburn Police Service were out and patrolled and monitored the school zones, and like I said, there were no infractions observed,” the corporal stated. “It’s a quiet time for the motorists, so we just want to remind everyone to obey the school zones, and watch out for pedestrians during the school hours.”

School zones in Weyburn have a speed limit of 30 kilometres an hour from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day. Also, schools have marked no parking zones on the streets to allow for ease of pedestrian traffic heading in and out of the schools in the morning and afternoon.
