Portage is gearing up for an exciting new season of the Special Olympics program, set to begin this fall. The program will resume its activities starting Monday, September 23, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the École Arthur Meighen gym.

Deanna Talbot, the head coach of the Portage Special Olympics program, is excited about the upcoming season.

"We're looking for athletes of all ages, so any children or adults who want to get involved in the program, regardless of their abilities, are welcome."

The program offers a range of activities for the athletes. Talbot provides details on what participants can expect.

"Every week, we run some activities as a group, and then we break out into more specific sports like basketball and track. Engagement with other athletes and volunteers is key to providing everyone with a good experience."

In addition to athletes, the program is actively seeking volunteers to assist with coaching and support. Those interested in volunteering or signing up their children can contact Talbot directly at (204) 870-0613 or visit the Special Olympics Manitoba website for more information.

Talbot's dedication to the program has deep roots, as she became involved ten years ago after her nephew, Caleb was born.

"It's been so rewarding. I have so much fun. I love seeing the athletes participate in all the different activities and just having a great time."
