The FASD Network, a provincial non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), will host a Lunch n' Learn session in Estevan on September 25.

“The FASD Network provides essential support and education to individuals and families impacted by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, helping them navigate various systems and access necessary services,” a spokesperson for the organization shared.

The free Lunch n' Learn sessions will be held across four communities in Saskatchewan, with the goal of educating attendees about the effects of prenatal alcohol exposure. These presentations will cover topics such as the primary disabilities associated with FASD, how these impairments influence behaviour, and the secondary challenges individuals may encounter. Attendees will also learn about the array of support services the Network offers.

FASD is a lifelong neurodevelopmental disorder caused by prenatal alcohol exposure. It can result in a variety of physical, cognitive, sensory, and behavioural difficulties. The Network’s Support Program provides personalized assistance, including educational resources, strategies for managing FASD, referrals to community programs, and advocacy for services. The program also helps families navigate key systems such as education, healthcare, income support, social services, and justice.

With approximately 4 per cent of Canadians affected by FASD, addressing the disorder is crucial. Due to its complexity, greater understanding and support are necessary to reduce stigma and misconceptions. Events like the Lunch n' Learn sessions play a pivotal role in spreading accurate information and fostering a supportive community.

Estevan residents are invited to attend the session on Wednesday, September 25, from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Days Inn Hotel. Registration is available online at saskfasdnetwork.ca/events.

“Our Lunch n' Learn presentations shed light on the effects of prenatal alcohol exposure, the challenges it presents, and the support services available through our organization,” added the spokesperson.
