An Overhead Shot of Syl's - the location of the Carman Area Foundation Mini-Golf Tournament
Categories

Carman Area Foundation (CAF) is teeing up for its third annual mini-golf fundraising event, Thursday, September 12th at Syl's. Although this event is becoming a regular feature in CAF's event calendar, fundraising efforts don't stop there.

"We take donations anytime of the year. We put that money into an endowment fund, and then we grant off of the interest that comes from our endowment funds," commented CAF Vice-Chair Ian Bergsma. "This past year, we granted out $150,000."

This past Spring was the 25th season of granting for the Foundation, according to Bergsma. "We do some regular grants to the to the town for the Rec department and for sports facilities, that type of thing. We regularly also grant and get requests from the daycares and schools in town."

The cost to register is $25 per golfer, which goes towards the CAF's operating costs, so that all donations throughout the year can be granted out to community organizations. The Granting Cycle begins at the start of the calendar year, with applications available in January. There will also be an opportunity to go home with prizes of your own, according to Ian, "On every hole we have a chance to win. If you get a hole in one, you enter your name into a draw bucket and you get a chance to win a $100 prize, and once you've completed your round, you'll receive a $10 gift card to Syl's."
