Southern Alberta and Foothills County are in for cooler conditions following a warm, sunny weekend.

The daytime highs in the 30s that were common last week will give way to more seasonable temperatures in the mid-teens to low tens.

We'll also see some rain starting mid-week.

"We are expecting another low-pressure system to develop in the high plains region which is going to bring those showers into the region predominantly between Wednesday night and Friday afternoon," says Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist, Justin Shelley.

"There is going to be some relative instability within that airmass. I wouldn't rule out the risk of a thunderstorm there on Thursday but it's predominantly just going to be a cooler, rainier day. It could get as high as 30mm on Thursday... Could see some gustier winds associated with that system too, maybe some gusts upwards of 50 or 60 km/h on Thursday. That'll be the worst weather day of the week, but relatively shortlived."

Though it may be a bit of a jarring drop from the warm conditions we've been used to, Shelley says it won't be too far off from the average for this time of year.

"The daytime high average is about 17. We're expected to be slightly below that Wednesday to Friday, maybe only reaching the low-to-mid teens but it does look like by the time we swing around to the weekend we're going to get those temperatures to moderate and bump back up to near 20 degrees."
