The Elecs endured a challenging start to their season, falling 92-6 in their home opener against the Greenall Griffins on Saturday.

Head coach Chris Bayerle acknowledged the result was far from what the team had hoped for but emphasized the need to push forward.

"Greenall came in strong from a higher division, and we really fell short," Bayerle said.

Despite the lopsided score, there were moments of promise. The team made gains in yardage, an improvement from previous seasons.

"We made strides in yardage that wasn’t typical over the last couple of seasons, which is significant," Bayerle said.

Bayerle also praised the team’s ability to regroup after a difficult first half.

“The kids did show signs, and we knew what was going on at halftime. So I just asked my boys to reset themselves and treat the game as if it was brand new. They kept themselves in a good spot. So, that is a positive," he added.

As the season progresses, the Elecs will focus on improving discipline, substitutions, and reducing penalties.

"There were quite a few undisciplined penalties that cost us field positions, so that needs sharpening," Bayerle said.

With a roster of 44 players and more expected to join, Bayerle is optimistic about the team’s potential this season.

"The commitment's been high from players and coaches, and now we just need to keep trucking ahead. We knew the division is strong, and we can't expect to just walk in after looking pretty in the preseason and expect to win games," he said.

Despite the tough start, Bayerle is confident the season is still full of opportunity.

"It's only one week, and the game doesn’t define us," he said.

The Elecs will face Moose Jaw Central next, with a 1 p.m. kickoff at Woodlawn.
