Last Saturday the Weyburn Police Service responded to a complaint from a concerned citizen regarding the well-being of a dog left outside of a local bar.

Corporal Riley Doud says when an officer arrived the owner had already left the area on a Medichair.

“The police went to speak to the owner of the dog, who was found driving down a road. While the member was speaking to the driver of the Medichair, the individual was found to be intoxicated.”

The driver was then placed under arrest for impaired operation of a conveyance and charged for impaired operation of a conveyance over 0.08.

“Under the provisions of the criminal code, a Medichair is considered to be a motor vehicle.”

Cpl. Doud says they ensured the dog was accounted for after the incident.

“The dog was found to be safe, and a member of the police service found a safe place for the dog to go.”

The Weyburn Police Service responded to 71 calls for service this week resulting in a total of 20 charges being laid. Two under the Criminal Code of Canada, 15 under the Traffic Safety Act, two under the Trespass to Property Act and one under the City of Weyburn Bylaw.
