Lake Minnewasta has long been a favourite destination for events during the summer months. This year, the lake will extend the fun of fair season into autumn with its Lakeside Festivities event in early October.
Trisha Hoeppner, a recent addition to the City of Morden’s team, is planning the event as her first undertaking in her new role as events coordinator.
“I feel like fall is something that we haven't tapped into,” she says. “Who doesn't love fall?”
The Lakeside Fall Festival takes place on October 6th from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. The afternoon will have a variety of children’s activities, including bouncy castles, a 60-foot obstacle course, inflatable giant soccer, a dart game, and inflatable axe throwing (which adults are free to take part in as well, of course).
“I'm a mother myself, so I just kind of thought, ‘what would my kids like to do?’” says Hoeppner. “We [also have] a barrel train ride that we're going to have. We're going to have a straw bale maze for the little ones. We're going to have a show from Prairie Wildlife . . . with owls that they're [rehabilitating].”
At 5 p.m., there will be a chili meal served by Kevin Funk at which attendees can purchase a meal and vote for their favourite dish. There will also be beer gardens and live music in the evening, including a performance by Ed Wayne.
“We're going to have Alice’s Community Coffee there, so go grab yourself a hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate,” says Hoeppner. “Picture a beautiful fall afternoon. You have your coffee, . . . a walk by the lake, [and] your kids are off running around, having a great time.”
Entrance for the event is free, but cotton candy sales at the Lakeside Festivities are cash only.
“I'm excited to see everyone have fun,” says Hoeppner. “That just brings me so much joy.”
