The Weyburn Youth Centre (WYC) is gearing up for their 31st annual banquet fundraiser. The event will be held at Knox Hall on October 5th at 6 p.m. with doors opening at 5 p.m. A turkey dinner will be served, followed by both a live and silent auction. Board member with WYC, Susan Adderley, says they’re doing something different this year.

“We're having a 50s, 60s theme night with a DJ. We thought we'd change it up, make it a little bit more fun. We're super excited about it.”

“We invite people to dress up in their best 50s and 60s attire and there will be prizes for the most unique costumes.”

The event is a fundraiser for the centre, their fundraising goal this year is $31 000. Alongside raising funds, Adderley says the event will also provide an opportunity to introduce their two new drop-in directors.

“[They] are super excited to come and introduce themselves. They've got lots of plans for the youth center, new games and new activities. We're super excited to have them come and introduce themselves this year.”

Funds will help keep the youth centre operating and provide opportunities for its growth.

“It's grown a lot over the years. Initially it was open for two days a week, but we were very short on volunteers. Now that we have grown a lot and we have these new directors, we're open two days a week again, Friday and Saturday. We're super excited about that. I believe last weekend, they said there was over 60 kids, which is wonderful. We are so thankful for the community support and, of course, the businesses that are donating wonderful items for our auctions.”

Tickets are $30 per person or $230 for a table of eight, they can be purchased by calling or texting Susan Adderley at (306) 861-2002. To donate to the youth centre or become a monthly partner, e-transfer weyburnyouthcentre@sasktel.net.
