A fun and interactive way to stay active.

Residents over the age of 50 in Humboldt have that opportunity multiple times a week at the Community Gathering Place with the Forever In Motion program.

On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, participants receive a chance to socialize and build up a little sweat in the process.

Forever In Motion was developed by the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) and delivered to communities across the province by the Sask. Park and Recreation Association.

One of the volunteer leaders of the program Jeanette Barlage explains that it’s relaxed atmosphere with each workout.

It contains 25 minutes of aerobic exercise, some weight and balance exercise and also stretching.

For the workouts, individuals need to bring comfortable workout clothes, indoor shoes and a water bottle. Weights will be provided.

Besides the physical activity, the social interaction is a perk of the program, according to Barlage.

“That’s what it’s meant for, to get people out, doing a lot of physical activity.”

Barlage noted one couple who recently moved to Humboldt decided to join the program after taking part in another community.

Forever In Motion workouts are held at the Community Gathering Place, from September until the long weekend in May.

You can sign up for an annual membership for $45 or a drop-in fee for $5.

Proceeds from the membership fees go toward the upkeep of the Gathering Place.
