The Chinook Film Group's first film of its 20th season explores a topic that touches close to home.

"Thelma" tells the story of a senior who falls prey to a phone scam and follows the actions she takes to recover the funds.

It's in Cochrane for one night only at the Cochrane Movie House on Sept. 18.

Thelma is a 93-year-old woman who lives alone and receives a phone call out of the blue from a scammer claiming her grandson has been arrested. To set him free, she has to fork out $10,000, and does.

The story takes off from there, following Thema's efforts to recover the funds after realizing she had been swindled.

There have been cases of the 'grandparent scam' right here in our community. Long-time Cochranite Stu Bradley has been speaking out about how he was victimized.
