During the inquiries and announcements portion of Monday's Weyburn City Council meeting, Councillor Larry Heggs requested an update from the City's Engineering Director, Renee Cugnet, on the intersection upgrades along First Avenue.

Cugnet said the storm main project at the intersection of 16th Street had some unforeseen delays due to rain and excess stormwater, "as well as some unplanned catch basin barrel replacements along that stretch."

She noted there were also delays with sourcing materials, as well as some extra days required for installation.

"There is about one more week of installation work left there, and then curb and gutter replacement can start with the hopes of completing the asphalt repairs after the Railway Avenue paving [work is complete]," she said.

Traffic light installation at 16th Street and First  Avenue will continue next week, which will entail boring the undergrounds, standing the steel and controller base, and then programming the signals.

Cugnet said another delay for the traffic signal light installation at the intersection of Government Road and First Avenue is due to an overhead powerline that needs to be raised, as it is currently too close in proximity to the northwest traffic signal light pole to safely install the signal arm.

SaskPower is scheduled to complete this part of the work on September 24th, after which the remainder of the project, camera-sensor light installation, will take only a couple of days to complete the intersection.

The projects at each of the two major intersections along First Avenue will be wrapped up by beginning of October.
