The Weyburn Kin Club is holding the second annual Pumpkin Roll. The event will be held on Saturday, October 5th at the top of Confederation Drive. Participants pay $10 per pumpkin to race down the hill and win cash prizes.

Adrian Prybylski with the Weyburn Kin Club says you can preregister by contacting weyburnkinclub@gmail.com or their Facebook page.

“Registration starts at 1 p.m. We will close off the street, so you will have to walk up the hill or find a shortcut in from somewhere. Once we are ready to go, we will start races, and it happens pretty fast, so get there early.”

The event runs in heats by age and boasts a pumpkin smashing station. Additional pumpkins are $5 but cannot be re-entered if the initial pumpkin is lost or smashed.

"Last year we had the smashing section ready to go, and I guess I was still running races. By the time we did the last adult race, we asked somebody to go look at the smash section, and it was already chaos. There was glitter and paint and pumpkin everywhere, and the kids were using the sledgehammers to just smush everything. They loved it. I think some of them probably loved that more than the actual races."

Funds will go to the Weyburn Kins Club, which in turn is put back into the community.

"This is a fundraiser, it's to raise money to go back into the community. Portions can go to TeleMiracle as well if needed, but for the most part the pumpkin roll is about going back into the community."

Prybylski says they’re looking forward to the event.

“We line everybody up into their heats. Once those kids are throwing pumpkins bigger than them, it's cute and fun. And then the older ages, everyone's a little bit more skilled and experienced, and those pumpkins get some high-speed going down that road. It's a lot of fun.”
