Glenbow needs a community association more now than ever, believes long-time resident Brian Winter.
He's put out the call to form an association for the 40-year-old neighbourhood that to his knowledge has never had one before. Winter and his wife Ginny had their pick of lots when they moved there from East Cochrane, 40 years ago.
"I think it's time that we had a voice," says Winter. "We have over 700 individual units that are either single family dwellings, duplexes, townhouses or condominiums, and each of these would help shape an association," he says.
"I think a lot has happening and plenty more is going to happen in Glenbow," he says. "An association will provide us a joint voice to speak with town council or to whomever else wants to do something in our community."
Glenbow includes several important community amenities, including the rodeo grounds, ball diamonds, Alliance Church, Cochrane Lions Events Centre, Glenbow Elementary School, a scenic section of the town pathway system, and BGC's 5th Ave. location. In the future, there's going to be more public facilities added at the 5th Ave. tri-site.
In 2025, the infrastructure on Glenpatrick Drive is scheduled to be updated by the town, he points out, that will include new underground services, new sidewalks and a traffic circle at the intersection of Glenhill Dr. and Glenpatrick Rd.
Just last Saturday, Glenbow held its first block party that was attended by 32 people at the Cochrane Alliance Church. The weekend before, a block party on Glenhill Drive attracted 66.
"It was a great event," he says. "Why we hadn't had a block party before is beyond me."
It also saw nine families sign up to be part of the new association.
He's encouraging all Glenbow residents interested in playing a part in forming the community association to contact him at winterbr@telus.net.
