Today marks a significant milestone for the FAIM Society as it celebrates the grand opening of its new branch in Airdrie. The event, which will take place from noon to 2:00 PM at 28 Gateway Drive, highlights the organization’s commitment to supporting adults with developmental disabilities in rural communities surrounding Calgary.

Arlene Ridgeway, the Branch Manager for Airdrie, spoke with Discoverairdrie.com to share her thoughts on the impact of this new location.

“We’ve been working in rural communities like High River and Okotoks for years, and now we’re thrilled to bring our services to Airdrie.”

Ridgeway said the grand opening will feature a walk-through of the new facility, showcasing the FAIM Society's various partnerships, including its collaboration with the National Diabetes Trust.

“One of our key partnerships involves employment preparation where individuals we support help manage and clean out donation bins. It’s a great way to provide meaningful work while supporting a good cause,”

The FAIM Society supports adults with developmental disabilities by providing crucial services such as employment preparation, community access, and home living support.

Ridgeway stated that local support is important to their clients and the community.

"Our goal is to integrate individuals into their community, providing not only employment but also a sense of belonging and purpose.”

The FAIM Society's approach is tailored to the individual needs of each person they support. They set goals with each individual based on their dreams and aspirations, Ridgeway said.

“It’s about matching their interests and capabilities with appropriate opportunities.”

The grand opening event will feature entertainment, a barbecue, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony supported by the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce.

Airdrie has a great new resource to celebrate in the community, as the work FAIM does will have a huge impact on the residents, said Ridgeway.

“Everyone needs purpose, and our employment programs provide that along with social interaction and pride. It benefits both the individuals we support and the employers who get to see the valuable contributions they make.”
