Weyburn Soccer Association recently held its annual general meeting on September 10th, and President Jason Roy said the event was a success.

He mentions how great it is to see people excited about the sport.

"We filled all the seats. We're going to train some people and get them comfortable in some new positions."

The meeting was a positive step for the association as they filled their board positions and began preparing for the future. One key focus for the Weyburn Soccer Association moving forward is increasing volunteer involvement, especially among youth.

"We are kind of pulling our families again to get more coaches involved,"

One exciting initiative involves high school students. The president says that students can actually get three soccer credits throughout high school for a coaching credit.

The association is also seeking more referees, noting that they will help you throughout the entire process.

"If you want to get involved and become more on the officiating side, Weyburn Soccer will find a course and educate you to become a match official."

Looking back, Roy mentioned that 2023 was one of the association's most successful years. With the growing interest in soccer, the Weyburn Soccer Association is also focused on recognizing the importance of volunteers.

"We really want to put a little more effort into and a little more acknowledgment [for] volunteering," said Roy.

While no games are scheduled yet, the Weyburn Soccer Association plans to host a large event in the new year. Last year, over 30 teams visited Weyburn for a tournament, and they are aiming for similar participation next time around.

Roy encourages people to get involved with the Weyburn Soccer Association, mentioning that their website and social media pages are great ways to stay informed.
