The past two nights have seen two thunderstorms move through the Weyburn area, along with much of southeast Saskatchewan. The systems brought around 17 millimetres of precipitation between both nights.

The system came as a result of a low-pressure system that originated in Montana, and came up quickly into the region.

“It brought in some showers and thundershower activity, so lots of lightning strikes,” said Terri Lang, a meteorologist with Environment Canada. “Didn’t see to be much in the way of rain, at least from many of the places that we get readings from, and couldn’t see any evidence of any damage caused by the thunderstorms either.”

The system responsible for the storms is moving on, which means a return to some fairer weather.

“The weekend is set to be a fairly nice weekend,” Lang noted. “I think it’s going to be breezy tomorrow, but at least there will be some sun around. Sunday looks like a brilliant day - 27° - when the average highs are around 18°, so I think that’s pretty nice for this time of year.”

Temperatures are expected to stay above average through the weekend, but there is the possibility of some more rain moving in by the middle of next week.
