1957 – 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Blayne Derwin Proden, Loved Father of Thomas, Vanessa (Myles), Ken (Rachael) and Krista (Andrew) and Grandpa to Anna, Walker, and Maddison, on September 3, 2024 at the age of 67.  He is also survived by his brother John Proden, brother-in-law Kerry Kinchen, and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, and his sister Dale Kinchen.

Blayne was born on May 10,1957 in Portage la Prairie, MB, son of Michael and Vivian Proden. He grew up in the north end of Portage and graduated from Portage Collegiate Institute in 1975. Following graduation, he began work at the Municipal Assessment Branch for the Province of Manitoba and had a full career there until retirement in 2012.

Blayne loved playing hockey, fishing, snowmobiling, biking, hanging out with his friends and listening to music. He also enjoyed spending time at the cottage at Delta.

After becoming a father, Blayne began volunteer coaching for numerous youth sport teams, like hockey, soccer, and football. He loved being involved with the kids and loved getting to know all of the kids on the teams.

He also spent numerous hours helping his mother, Vivian, with Junk for Joy and attending auctions, always trying to find the next big-ticket item or the next best deal.

Blayne enjoyed taking care of his yard and took pride in having perfectly mowed grass and a fire going all summer. He always welcomed friends and family to stop in for a visit.

Bring a lawn chair, and join the family on Friday, September 20th, 2024 at the Gainsborough Hall for a smoke, a drink, and a fire, starting at 4:00 p.m.
