Estevan's newest resident and children's author Jason Weening will be hosting an author talk at the Estevan Public Library on September 14, at 2:00 p.m. Weening, who recently moved to the area from Ontario, is the author of Riders of the Lost Reptiles: Danger in the Jungle, a children's adventure book that combines mystery, action, and dinosaurs.

In an interview on the SUN 102 morning show, Weening spoke about the inspiration for his novel and shared a little bit about his personal life.

“We moved from Ontario and bought some property just south of town,” Weening shared. “We got some pigs and ducks, and we just got a puppy on the weekend, so we’re learning all about that. But I’ve got 10 kids also, so that’s sometimes a unique thing when I’m talking to people, and it’s a busy operation around our place.”

Weening credited his children with helping shape the story, noting that their feedback was integral to the development of the book.

“We had a lot of brainstorming sessions with the kids,” he explained. “Almost every character in the book is either named after one of my kids or one of my nephews or nieces, so I had lots of names to pick from.”

Riders of the Lost Reptiles: Danger in the Jungle is the first in a planned three-book series. Describing the essence of the story, Weening said, “You’ve got kids riding on dinosaurs through the jungle—it’s pretty much every young person’s dream.”

Copies of Riders of the Lost Reptiles: Danger in the Jungle will be available for purchase at the event. For more information about Jason Weening and his work, visit his website at heydads.ca, where he also shares his podcast encouraging fathers to invest in their families.
