The Town of High River has announced they are holding a memorial tree and bench ceremony on September 25 at 6:00 p.m. to honour the donors who purchased trees and benches at George Lane Park.
The event will also celebrate National Tree Day as Canadians across the country celebrate their love for trees, their natural beauty, and their many benefits.
The memorial trees and benches at George Lane Park were put in placement for a relative or loved one who passed away, graduations, birthday gifts, and wedding or anniversary gifts.
The memorial tree program offers a variety of evergreen, deciduous, and fruiting trees which include, Siberian Larch, Northwestern Poplar, Hardi Mac Apple, and more. Anyone who purchases a tree at $500 each can state where the tree will be planted at George Lane Park, Sheppard Family Park, or Riverside Park. The $500 includes planting, a plaque, and maintenance.
For those who would like to add a six-foot bench as a memorial, it will be included with a plaque for $1,500.
Applications for trees and benches must be submitted by March 31 of each year. As for the installation, a date will be made by the Parks Department when the schedule is seasonally possible.
