The Weyburn Humane Society was recently presented with a $2,000 donation from the Soo Line Cruisers Car Club, raised during the Show & Shine and from a recent swap meet event.

"We just got caught up with them to get their cheque presented to us. It's amazing. We could really use it now, so it came at a great time," said Shelter Manager Colleen Morrice.

She noted that this summer, the shelter also had local kids bringing in money collected from things like lemonade stands.

"We've had a couple kids that have did lemonade stands, which they've made a significant amount of money like $50 and I also had $100 donation as well from lemonade," Morrice shared.

"It's great to have these young ones coming up that are donating to the shelter because they are aware of their homeless animals, whereas when I was eight or 10, I'm not sure that I was aware, but now kids are very aware of the homeless population and they come in to visit the shelter and see the animals and want to help them."

Any monetary donations go into their general operating fund, unless otherwise specified.

"Right now, with the economy and everything, we are seeing a downtick in our donations, so any donations that we do get are very much appreciated," she shared. "I have cut hours in the last couple months to purchase the food as donations are a little slower, but it has been going very well this summer."
