The extensive manhunt for homicide suspect Elijah Blake Strawberry has ended.

RCMP officials reported the 28-year-old man was arrested at a residence on O'Chiese First Nation, 55 km northwest of Rocky Mt. House, shortly after 1 p.m. today (Sept. 13).

Strawberry will be taken before a justice of the peace to determine his release status and future court date, states Cpl. Troy Savinkoff in a new release issued tonight.

"With this arrest, the Alberta RCMP are confident that both suspects involved in the Aug. 6 homicide of Colin John Hough and the attempted murder of another individual are in custody," states the release.

On Aug. 13, Arthur Wayne Penner, 35, was charged with first degree murder in the death of Airdrie resident Colin John Hough, and the attempted murder of a Fortis employee, who was injured in the attack and released from the hospital the same day.

“We received tips and information from the public over the course of the last few weeks and the arrest of Elijah Strawberry serves as a reminder of the value of public assistance in maintaining public safety," states Chief Superintendent Roberta McKale, “The Alberta RCMP had a significant coordinated effort with many different units engaged from across the province offering thousands of work hours to locate and arrest Elijah Strawberry."

He praised the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit, supporting units and other police agencies for their tireless effort to capture Strawberry.

The investigation continues and the RCMP continue to encourage anyone with information about these crimes to come forward.
