There’s still enough warm weather for another great community barbecue, and this Thursday, the folks in Watson and area can celebrate one more.
The Watson CWL are hosting a fundraising barbecue for the Quill Plains Health Centre Foundation on Thursday, September 19 at the New Horizons Centre.
Chair of the Foundation Norma Weber says there is considerable excitement around the recent announcement about the new centre being built as opposed to a renovated facility.
“On August 23, we met with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, and they gave us the announcement that we are going to be getting a whole new building. It will include a health centre side which will include the doctors’ offices, X-ray and lab. It will be going north of the present facility.”
Weber says that the new facility was a welcome announcement, but the costs will be higher, and that means the Health Foundation will have to raise additional dollars for furnishings and equipment as part of the agreement.
The barbecue serves as a kick-off to their latest fundraising effort. The organization gratefully accepts donations at events like the barbecue, but also through its ongoing campaign.
The announcement in August moved the project to the pre-design phase, welcome news that plans for the project are advancing.
"Moving to this new phase means we are one step closer to offering more long-term care spaces for those needing additional supports in the Watson area," SHA Physician Executive for Integrated Rural Health Dr. Johann Roodt said in a government release accompanying the announcement. "It means so much to residents in long-term care to remain as close to their home communities and loved ones as possible while receiving the care they need."
