Elections Saskatchewan is sending out letters letting residents know how to apply for mail-ballots.
The letters were sent out during the Labour Day long weekend to make people aware that a provincial election is coming as well as mail-in ballot information.
Tim Kydd, senior director of outreach and communications for Elections Saskatchewan, said voting by mail was popular during the pandemic.
“Voting by mail was very popular in 2020. Yes, that was an election where there was a pandemic going on, but it was also seen by voters as a real convenient, safe and secure option to voting,” he said.
He added that Elections Saskatchewan processes thousands of mail-in ballot applications.
“Once your application is approved, then after the election is officially underway, we mail out an envelope which has several pieces in it, including a ballot to write in the name of a candidate and a secure envelope that you send it back in.
Applications and more information about mail-in ballots can be found on the Elections Saskatchewan website.
It was noted that these letters are not your voter information cards. The voter information cards will be sent out once the writ is dropped by the provincial government.
“Those voter information cards essentially tell people where and when they vote, their options for locations, the dates and the times. So, people should watch for those a week or 10 days after the election is called. Then we get the voter information cards into the mail stream,” said Kydd.
Those eligible to vote but not receiving a voter information card can still register at the polls with a valid ID.
Additionally, Kydd said election workers are still needed for the Lumsden-Morse riding. Those interested in working the election can find more information at www.elections.sk.ca.
