Many central Albertans had their plants covered up Sunday night, with Environment and Climate Change Canada issuing a frost advisory for parts of the region.

"Around this time of the year, because there is a vulnerability to plants, to crops, we do issue these frost advisories to give the general public a heads up about the potential for frost development," said Meteorologist Heather Pimiskern.

She notes areas west of Red Deer likely saw some frost overnight.

Pimiskern explains they typically issue frost advisories anywhere between the middle of August to the end of September.

The risk of frost appears to be minimal for the rest of the week with overnight lows expected to remain above zero.

Daytime highs for the Red Deer region will be in the low to mid-20s with lots of sunshine. The area could see a few clouds on Tuesday.

"As far as precipitation is concerned for Alberta, the majority of the precipitation that we're looking at going into the mid half of the week into the weekend, there's going to be a system that affects southeastern Alberta into Saskatchewan that will bring some rain to the region but as far as the Red Deer and Lacombe region is concerned, we're looking at a fairly nice week ahead," explained Pimiskern.

The normal daytime high for this time of year is about 17 degrees.
