A Cochrane man has won an award from the province for his volunteer services throughout the Cochrane Community.

Paul Singh has been recognised by the Alberta Northern Lights Volunteer Program, for his support of local youth organisations and efforts to build a more welcoming community.

“I was thrilled that I got nominated for such a big award,” says Singh. “I wasn't aware that I was nominated, I'm honoured and I'm thankful to the people of Cochrane who nominated me and looking forward to keep continuing the work.”

Singh says it was a great honour to be recognized by the community he holds so dear.

“Ten years ago, when I came here, I came by myself knowing nobody and since then, now Cochrane is a family, Cochrane's home.”

“People have given [me] so much support and love. They motivate you to do more and meet different people. I learn lots from them and make connections.”

Singh is well known for his volunteerism throughout Cochrane with multiple organizations including BGC of Cochrane and area and the Cochrane Immigrant Services Committee.

“We have so many incredible nonprofit and organizations, go volunteer with them. They don't need much of your time. Maybe an hour, half an hour or wherever you could. You won't believe how many people are helping and contributing to the society which are behind the scenes.”
