Southern Plains Co-op's highly anticipated Fuel Good Day is taking place on September 17 and promises to make a significant impact across our local communities. Brooke Spagrud, Marketing Manager at Southern Plains Co-op, provides insight into the event and the vital support it will offer to three deserving organizations.

"In each of our communities, we have a different recipient to keep the funds local, because the Co-op is always all about giving back locally," Spagrud explained. "It's one of the biggest days of the year for us, especially for our gas bars. And every year we look forward to it. It's a big day."

Oxbow Rink: A Crucial Upgrade Needed

Oxbow Rink

In Oxbow, the Fuel Good Day funds will support the Oxbow rink, which is in urgent need of a new ice plant. The rink’s current equipment is outdated and in poor condition, threatening its ability to operate effectively. Without the necessary funds, the rink could face severe operational challenges, impacting local sports and community events. The support from Fuel Good Day is crucial to help cover the costs of the new ice plant, ensuring the rink remains a central part of the community’s recreational and social life.

Carlyle Curling Club: Expanding Youth Programs

Carlyle

Carlyle's recipient is the Carlyle Curling Club, which aims to expand its youth curling programs. By investing in these programs, the club hopes to engage more young people in the sport, fostering new talent and ensuring the sustainability of curling in the community. This initiative will help cultivate a new generation of curlers and keep the sport thriving in Carlyle.

Estevan Early Years Family Resource Centre: Growing Essential Services

Family Centre

In Estevan, the funds will benefit the Estevan Early Years Family Resource Centre. This organization provides free programming and essential services for children up to age 11. With increasing demand, the centre seeks to further expand its programs to reach more families and offer additional support. The contributions from Fuel Good Day will help them enhance their services and continue making a positive impact on the community.

How to Participate

Join in on September 17 to support these worthy causes. Visit the Southern Plains Co-op gas bars in Carlyle, Estevan, and Oxbow, where $0.10 from every litre of fuel sold will go to these local beneficiaries. Enjoy any size coffee for just $1, with proceeds also supporting the event. Children are encouraged to participate in a colouring contest for a chance to win a $100 Co-op gift card. Every purchase helps make a difference and strengthens our community.
