Estevan Police responded to a range of incidents over the weekend, from public disturbances and neighbour disputes to a K9-assisted arrest and a Facebook Marketplace scam, keeping officers busy across the city.

On Friday, September 13, the Estevan Police Service (EPS) received a report of an intoxicated woman near a business in the Hillside area. Police responded and determined she was at the business to receive services and was not intoxicated or causing any problems. A second call was received later about a woman acting strangely in the Hillside area. Police attended and confirmed it was the same woman from the earlier complaint. Officers spoke with her, and she was sent on her way.

The EPS K9 unit assisted the RCMP in locating a man who had fled from custody in the Pleasantdale area. The police service dog tracked the man to a shed in a backyard. He was uncooperative and was taken into custody by the K9 unit, sustaining minor injuries to his lower extremities.

EPS received a report of an Estevan man making contact with someone he was court-ordered not to contact. The matter remains under investigation.

During the night shift, officers responded to a disturbance in the Westview area. An Estevan man and two men from Regina were arrested for causing a disturbance and being intoxicated in public. One of the men was also arrested on outstanding warrants from Regina. All three were held in custody until sober.

On Saturday, EPS received a report of an individual being scammed through Facebook Marketplace. Police remind the public to be cautious when making online purchases, to verify posts before sending money, and to review seller profiles for irregularities such as few posts or friends.

Police also received a report of a driver yelling and threatening others from a company vehicle. The driver was identified, and the matter was deferred to the company as a workplace issue.

On Sunday, EPS responded to a report of a disoriented man in the south end of the city. Police and EMS attended, and the man was transported to the hospital for assessment.

Officers responded to a report of a fight in the city core, but those involved had left before police arrived. A complaint of assault was reported and is under investigation.

A Report Impaired Drivers (RID) call was received about a vehicle approaching Estevan from the east on Highway 39. The vehicle was not located, and the license plate provided did not match the description of the suspect vehicle. A second driver coming west on Highway 39 was found not to be impaired but received a speeding ticket.

Police responded to a call from the 800 block of King Street about a break-and-enter at a residence. The suspect was known to the complainant, and the matter was resolved without charges. Several neighbour disputes and complaints were also reported in the same block. Police cautioned all parties involved.

EPS received a report of a dog in distress in an apartment. Concern for the dog and its owner led officers to enter the apartment to check on the residents. The dog was taken to the Humane Society and later retrieved by its owner.

Police responded to a report of a man experiencing a mental health crisis in the Trojan area. Officers mediated the situation and ensured the individual had access to mental health and addiction support services.

EPS received a report of a man removing flowers and plywood from the cemetery. The suspect, described as riding a white bicycle and wearing a black hat, left before police arrived. The items were found discarded nearby.

Staff at a north-end motel requested police assistance with two disgruntled guests who had booked through an online discount website and were unhappy with the information provided. Officers mediated a resolution between the guests and the motel staff.
