Weyburn Culture Days will be kicking off on September 20th as part of the national event celebrating culture and diversity across the country. This is the twelfth time Weyburn has participated, curator for the Weyburn Art Gallery, Regan Lanning says it’s “designed to create opportunities for cultural awareness and cultural sharing within our communities.”

September 20th will host the first event at the Weyburn Art Gallery, an artist talk and reception with Iris Hauser about her Crone Ascendant exhibition currently on display. The following day on September 21st, Hauser will teach a live portraiture class. There is still room to register for this event, there is a $75 fee to participate.

The next weekend on September 28th, Culture-Palooza will begin at the Weyburn Credit Union Spark Centre. A variety of arts and culture events will be held throughout the day, this includes a paint your flag event, come try cricket, a mural creation, popsicle stick craft, a rangoli creation, a raku firing demonstration, and a cultural dance performance by the Indian Newcomers Group.

On September 30th Culture Days will collide with National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

“We have our Treaty 4 Timeline Walk, as well as a Feather Garland Creation event that is happening in conjuncture with Collaborative Studios in Jubilee Park. The walk will kick off at one o'clock outside of the Credit Union Spark Centre.”

October events begin on the fifth with a potluck movie matinee, October 10th will see soap carving, as well as a performance by the Regina Symphony Orchestra. October 11th will host the opening reception for the new exhibit “Zero Degrees of Separation” at the Weyburn Art Gallery.

The final day of Weyburn’s Culture Days will include a class on making perogies, and a celebration for the 50th anniversary of the City of Weyburn’s Permanent Collections.

Running throughout the celebration will be an online video series called ‘Cultural Comfort Foods’.

“There are a number of short videos teaching you how to make these different Cultural Comfort Foods, as well as the PDF version of the recipe for you to print off.”

All events held at the library will require pre-registration, all events will be free or pay what you may.

To find more information on these events visit the Weyburn Culture Days events page. Lanning says information and updates will also be posted on community websites and Facebook Pages.

“You can find more information about all of our Culture Days events on the Community Events Calendar, or on the Weyburn Art Gallery/Weyburn Arts Council's Facebook page. Also, on the City of Weyburn website.”

Lanning calls the event a “wonderful national initiative” and hopes to see involvement from the whole community.

“I hope to see a lot of new faces. If you are not a regular at the cultural events in Weyburn, this is a great time to dip your toe in and see what it's all about.”
