Humboldt Collegiate Institute (HCI) Mohawk football players from the past are welcome back to Glenn Hall Park this Friday night.
The current HCI Mohawks football team will host Delisle in the annual night game that will be played under the lights and serves as the program’s alumni game.
Horizon SD Administrator of Student Activities, Brian Grest says recognizing the alumni of the Mohawk football program is important for the current players.
“The current players see how important see how it is to people who have been in the program, throughout the years and brings meaning to them.”
Grest adds the alumni game also gives the former players a chance to revisit some good memories.
“It’s pretty important for the alumni too, they always refer to football as the ultimate team sport, and it definitely is, there’s friendships you make that lasts forever, and this is an occasion for a lot of people who haven’t seen each other for a long time to make a point of coming back.”
In recent years, the alumni game has recognized different eras of the Mohawk program, honouring the provincial championship winning squads. This year, Grest says they will be recognizing all of the Mohawk alumni at this year’s game.
With the unique setting of late-night game in Humboldt, Grest notes it’s special environment for the alumni game.
“Typically we get over a thousand people at each game, so it is really quite fun to be out there under lights, with all the crowd and all of the support.”
The HCI Mohawks are 1-1, while Delisle is 2-0 this season.
Kickoff for Friday night’s game is 7:30.
