The free Community Hot Lunch Program resumes tomorrow, Sept. 17 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the St. Andrew's United Church, 128 1 St E.
The popular weekly lunch offers a chance to enjoy a freshly made soup of your choice (there is always a vegan option) with a bun, sweet treat and refreshments.
There's also live music twice a month. To kick off the return of the program, the band Saucie will be performing tomorrow.
This program has been running since 2015 and is really all about building community, creating friendships and enjoying a shared lunch. It is non-theological and is an opportunity for anyone to partake in a free shared meal.
"I would say that in essence, the program is a testament to the power of community cooperation and the impact it can have on fostering a strong and inclusive sense of community," says Mary Magee, hot lunch coordinator.
The Community Lunch Program is made possible through sponsors and volunteers and additional help is always more than welcome. There is an opportunity to provide financial sponsorship (tax receipt will be issued) or hands-on volunteering on the day of the lunch.
The program typically requires four people to arrive Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. to prepare the soup, get everything ready to serve it, and then clean up afterward.
The program continues until the end of May and is every Tuesday except Dec. 24.
If you are able to help in any way you are invited to contact the church at 403-932-2585 or via email at office.cochraneunited@gmail.com.
